As chairman of the Investment Committee, Dave Peckenpaugh oversees Whitnell’s investment process and provides ongoing research and recommendations for various direct investments, mutual funds, and outside managers. He provides regular assessments of financial markets and the global economy to help manage client portfolios and make shifts in asset allocation as may be appropriate from time to time.

Dave has been an investment management professional throughout his career and brings a disciplined fundamental, research-oriented, long-term analytical approach to the investment process and the management of portfolios for clients. Utilizing this research, Dave focuses on helping clients understand their current investments and the risk and return trade-offs in their portfolios to help them meet their goals.

Before joining Whitnell in 2006, Dave was with the Harris Bank managing the investments for selected high net-worth clients and families and overseeing the portfolio management group in the Hinsdale office. While at Harris, he served on various committees including the Common Stock Selection Committee and the Asset Allocation Metrics Committee which provided a framework for constructing client portfolios.

Prior to joining Harris Bank, he was a Senior Portfolio Manager with The Northern Trust Company for 11 years. He was responsible for developing the analytical process that was used for selecting common stocks in the Personal Investment Management Group at the Northern Trust in Chicago.

Earlier he worked with clients in the Trust Department of The First National Bank of Chicago and began his career serving as a portfolio manager at Sears Bank and Trust Company in 1977.

Dave received his Bachelor’s degree in economics from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He is a CFA® charterholder.
